Why can't my budding ballerina skip yet?
Dance classes are a wonderful way to develop young children's fine and gross motor skills. Programs are designed to nurture and challenge students to extend their potential beyond what children may develop naturally at home or in the playground.
Developmentally most children will not reach the milestone of mastering the art of skipping until they are about 5 years of age.
Instead young children should focus on balancing on one leg, lifting their foot up, marching, galloping, trots and jumping as progressive steps towards skipping.
Be patience as every child grows at their own pace and that is okay!
